In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month on May 13, members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society worked with the HicksStrong Foundation to paint Hug Mugs for service members. The unique, hand-painted mugs are used to help bring awareness to mental health in the military.
A #HicksStrong Hug Mug is a way to remind military members that they are not alone, that there are resources to help and that there are people out there who care about them. The primary goal of the HicksStrong Foundation is to connect service members with licensed therapists in the mental health field so they can receive confidential support. They hope to help end the suicide epidemic among military service members and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health in the military.
Members of PTK were honored to take part in the Hug Mug painting event. It was a relaxing activity that brought out their creativity and all for a good cause. Knowing that these special mugs would be given to both veteran and active-duty military members made it extra special.
Thank you to PTK advisor, and Navy veteran, Renay Williams, for working with The HicksStrong Foundation to help make this event possible.
Thank you to PTK member, Sienna Hicks, and her mother, Jolee Hicks, for providing the supplies and bringing positive energy to make it such a meaningful experience.
